OMG! I have been a way for a bit. But I have not had an epiphany in a minute or two. Yes, now you are getting it as it happens.
Where do they come from? Are they fleeting thoughts that are so strong you have to write them down? Do you have memories from members of your family that you think you can turn into a novel? Did you happen to witness something so interesting while you were on your smoke break that you had to document it? All of those can be an amazing story. But it is up to you to decide what to write about.
When you do decide, what is your motivation? Do you want to write a good story because you are already a great author, and you know your next work is going to be your next masterpiece? Do you have a gut feeling about your next book, and write it solely based on that? Or do you do a crap ton of research and base your next novel on fact alone. LOL! No. Fact alone will not be your best seller unless you are writing a non-fiction, and that is not what you are trying to do.
What you are trying to do is bamboozle your readers into thinking as you do. You want them the see your heroes as their heroes. You want your readers to hate your villains just as they were written to be hated. That is your goal.
So when you decide that you want to write your first story, a new story, or put a new twist on a story that is already written, be sure to keep these things in mind.
A story idea is just that, until you bring everything to life. And when you do, give it your all. Not everyone will like what you do, but there will be at least one that will. The one that does should be enough to keep you moving. We are human after all. Praise is one of the things that keeps us motivated.
Look for praise, to keep you motivated, no matter where it comes from. If you do this, you will constantly crank out amazing stories to satisfy your readers and yourself.
Why must you, as the author, be satisfied? Well shit if you aren’t happy, no one else will be.
